William Nibbs was the fifth child, (second son) of William
David Nibbs and Mary Ann Timoney (Tumney).
His father was a convict, transported to Australia in 1831
for participating in the machine breaking ‘Swing Riots’ in Buckinghamshire,
England. His mother was born in Co. Tyrone, Ireland. She was also a convict,
transported from Dublin in 1843 on the ship ‘East London’. She served 7 years for stealing a coat.
